Coroners Court Staff

Coroners are supported by Case Managers, the National Initial Investigation Office, Legal and Research Counsel and the Office of the Chief Coroner.

National Initial Investigation Office

National Initial Investigation Office (NIIO) staff are the initial point of contact for all deaths reported to the duty
coroner. NIIO staff provide a 24-hour service, including liaising with families and whānau, and they manage cases from the time the death is reported until the person is released from the mortuary.

Case Managers

Coroners are supported by a case manager who works closely with them. They help keep family and whānau informed about what is happening and they provide case management and administrative support to the coroners.

Families and whānau will receive a letter with their contact details, and they will be your main contact. If you change address, phone number or email let the case manager know.
